About us

Clean water should not depend on where you are born

Stable Steps Water Aid is a charity initiative built on a simple belief: everyone deserves access to clean, safe drinking water, wherever they live and whatever their financial circumstances.

For most of us, clean water comes at the turn of a tap. For families in some remote villages of South Punjab, it can mean a long walk to collect water, or relying on a source that may not be safe.

We work with local representatives and survey teams to find the households with the least access, and to put a practical, lasting water point within their reach.

Why we exist

Unsafe water makes children ill

Water carrying harmful bacteria, viruses or parasites can cause serious illness. Young children are especially at risk of dehydration and complications. Repeated illness can affect nutrition and growth, and keeps children away from school.

A pump alone does not make water safe. Every proposed source is assessed and tested before we describe it as safe, and we publish the results.

Hadith · حدیث

أَيُّ الصَّدَقَةِ أَفْضَلُ؟ سَقْيُ الْمَاءِ

Sa‘d ibn ‘Ubadah (may Allah be pleased with him) asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ:
“Which charity is best?”

The Prophet ﷺ replied“Providing drinking water.”

Sunan Ibn Majah · Hadith 3684 · also narrated in other collections

Every pump plaque carries the words صدقہ جاریہ, sadaqah jariyah: a charity that keeps giving for as long as people drink from it. Many of our donors give a pump in memory of a loved one.

Our mission and vision

What we are working towards

Mission

To bring clean, safe drinking water within reach of rural communities in need, helping to protect health, support children and improve quality of life.

Vision

A future where no child drinks unsafe water, no parent worries about finding water for their family, and every community has a fair chance of a reliable, safe source.

We begin in South Punjab and, as our resources and experience grow, will consider other communities in Pakistan where the need is shown.

  3. Test

Check the feasibility and quality of the proposed source, with appropriate water testing.

  4. Install

Fund and arrange a suitable hand pump or other appropriate water facility.

  5. Record & maintain

Publish the project record and agree how the pump will be looked after.

Where we work

Multan and the edge of the Cholistan Desert

Our first work is in rural South Punjab: villages in and around Multan, and communities in the wider Cholistan region where families show a real need.

Projects are chosen by need and by whether we can deliver a safe, practical and lasting solution. Pumps 31 to 38 sit within a few hundred metres of each other, in a rural settlement about 40 km west of Multan.
